The Royal Scandals Tour

Let’s uncover 3 royal scandals which rocked the monarchy over the years! These are stories of lust, love, power struggles and tragedy.

We begin with the power struggle between Queen Elizabeth I and the Earl of Essex. The story of an ageing queen and her love for a suitor, 34 years her junior. Obsession, power,  rebellion, tragedy and a bloody death litter this tale.   We visit many historical places associated with this couple, including: Ludgate Hill, the Tower of London, Fleet Street and St James’s Park.

We then move forwards, 200 years in fact, and explore the story of the flamboyant and arrogant King George IV's tempestuous relationship with his wife, Queen Caroline….and his secret wedding to another!   This turbulent royal marriage, leads us through Georgian London, including: St James’s Palace, Regent’s Park Terrace, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square and the Royal Arcade.

Our final scandal takes place in the 1930s, when a king gave up his throne for the woman he loved!  King Edward VIII and the American socialite, Mrs Wallis Simpson, are the stars of this story. Arguably the biggest royal scandal in British history, this controversial couple left England and settled in France where they lived in relative exile. Locations visited include: Buckingham Palace, the Duke’s Hotel, Marlborough House, St James Square and The Mall.
